The Department of Fire Protection is a guarantee workplace for the study field “Safety and Security Sciences”, which take place in teaching in study programme “Fire Protection and Safety” at the 3 rd level of university study in Slovak, in full-time and part-time form.
The aim of the study programme is to provide a complete tertiary education in the 3rd level (PhD).
Knowledge:
• of combustion theory and fire dynamics, toxicology of combustion products, flammable and extinguishing agents, impacts of fires on climate change, the environment, and humans,
• of fire safety of buildings and designing fire equipment, • of carrying out activities in the field of fire protection, civil protection and occupational health and safety,
• of management and organization of forces and resources when fighting the fires and coping with other emergencies,
• of full range of fire prevention and repression techniques and technologies,
• of theory and risk management,
• of theory and legislation in the field of rescue operations management.
Abilities:
• apply specific scientific methods to the operation and management of the Integrated Rescue System (especially Fire and Rescue Service),
• critically analyse and apply theoretical knowledge in fire protection practice, • apply the knowledge of operational analysis in the management and organization of forces and resources in fighting fires and coping with other emergencies,
• apply knowledge of electronic and communication systems and tools for intervention management
• apply computer-aided modelling tools to address fire protection and security issues,
• use modelling and simulations in the evaluation of fire treatment of materials and products, increasing the fire safety of buildings and the effectiveness of interventions in case of fires and other emergencies,
• introduce new technical solutions, use modern methods, and means of solving problems in fire protection and safety
Competences:
• implement progressive management solutions at a higher and strategic level in the field of fire protection, occupational health and safety, crisis management and civil protection,
• manage fire and other emergency prevention processes and rescue operations,
• apply legislation in the activities and management of integrated Rescue systems responders (especially Fire and Rescue Service),
• evaluate technical equipment and assess safety of technological systems,
• formulate hypotheses and strategies for research, study field development and application of knowledge in practice,
• apply the principles of crisis management in the activities of the Integrated Rescue system responders,
• communicate in English using scientific and professional terminology.
